FAQ
Why not NHTSA's free recall lookup?
It's the official record and it's where every vehicle should be confirmed by VIN. It checks one vehicle at a time, though. The brief is the whole week on one page, ranked by size, with stop-use advisories first, trends and data your team can filter.
How do I check my own fleet or lot?
Each edition has vehicles_12m.csv and fleet_match.py (Python 3, nothing to install). Save your vehicles as a CSV with make, model, year columns and run python3 fleet_match.py my_vehicles.csv. You get every matching recall, stop-use advisories first. A model-year match means "check this VIN": a recall can cover part of a model year.
Does it cover trucks, buses, RVs, tires and child seats?
Yes. It covers every campaign in NHTSA's file: vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, RVs and trailers), equipment, tires and child seats. Each one is labelled by type.
When does a new edition arrive, and can I cancel?
Every Monday. The new PDF and zip replace the previous files in your Polar customer portal. You can cancel any time from the portal; yearly plans renew once a year.
Is this an official NHTSA product?
No. It's an independent report built from NHTSA's public recall file (a US Government work) and isn't affiliated with NHTSA or any manufacturer. It's general safety information, not legal or mechanical advice.
