Salary to hourly calculator (and back), plus freelance rates
Convert a yearly salary into hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly pay. Turn an hourly wage into a salary with overtime, or work out what to charge as a freelancer or contractor.
The tax rate is a flat estimate you enter yourself. Real take-home pay depends on your country, state and deductions.
7.65% is the extra US self-employment tax a freelancer pays on top of the employee share (15.3% total). Change it for your country. Billable % = the share of working hours you can actually charge for after sales, admin and email.
How to convert salary to hourly
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you're paid for in a year. A full-time job at 40 hours a week is paid for 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary works out to $28.85 an hour. Paid holidays don't change that rate, but they mean you earn more per hour actually worked. The calculator shows both numbers.
How to convert hourly to salary
Multiply the hourly wage by hours per week and weeks worked. $25 an hour full time is 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year. Add overtime hours at 1.5× (time and a half) and take out any unpaid weeks off.

How much should I charge as a freelancer?
A salary hides costs your employer pays: part of your payroll tax, health insurance, retirement contributions, equipment and paid time off. As a freelancer you pay all of them and can only bill part of your time. The freelance tab adds those costs to the salary you want and divides by your billable hours. That's why a fair contractor rate is often 1.5–2.5× the equivalent employee hourly rate.
